Geropsychiatric ServicesChanges brought on by the aging process can be challenging, overwhelming and sometimes debilitating. Increased awareness and understanding of the relationship between the physical health and mental well being of an aging person enhances the healing process.

As part of our mission to the community, Reid Hospital & Health Care Services offers a Geropsychiatric inpatient unit. People in acute psychiatric crisis urgently require a safe environment, a structured and supportive social setting, and intense psychiatric and psychological therapeutic intervention.

Reid's geropsychiatric unit combines these elements into a unique and effective treatment program. Every aspect of the unit assists patients in achieving their optimal level of functioning.

The unit serves senior patients suffering from emotional and psychological distresses, such as:

  • Depression 
  • Anxiety    
  • Changes or problems with medication
  • Dementia
  • Psychiatric disorders resulting from other medical conditions

Treatment includes:

  • Individual treatment planning
  • Individual and family therapy
  • Group therapy (occupational and activity)
  • Medication management
  • Discharge planning

The Reid treatment team includes:

  • Psychiatrists
  • Physicians and medical specialists
  • Registered and Licensed Practical Nurses

  • Occupational & recreational therapists
