Geropsychiatric

Geropsychiatric

Changes brought on by the aging process can be challenging, overwhelming and sometimes debilitating. That's why we offer geropsychiatric services to seniors suffering from emotional and psychological distresses such as depression, anxiety, changes or problems with medication, dementia and psychiatric disorders resulting from other medical conditions.

Becoming aware of and understanding how the aging process can affect a person's mental health is an important step of the healing process. Our geropsychiatric unit combines a safe environment, a structured and supportive social setting and intense psychiatric and psychological therapeutic intervention to help seniors achieve their optimal level of functioning.

Our 30-bed facility provides intensive treatment for the elderly who suffer from acute psychiatric disorders, cognitive impairment and age-related physiological disabilities.

People in acute psychiatric crisis urgently require a safe environment, a structured and supportive social setting and intensive psychiatric and physiological therapeutic intervention.

Treatment options include a "Snoezelen" room, providing sensory stimulation in dementia patients. Every aspect of treatment is intended to assist patients in achieving an optimal level of functioning.

Our treatment plans include:

  • Admission screening
  • Evaluation and assessment
  • Individual treatment planning
  • Individual and family therapy
  • Group therapy (occupational and activity)
  • Medication management
  • Discharge planning
  • Outreach and aftercare
  • Family and caregiver support

The Reid treatment team includes psychiatrists, physicians and medical specialists, registered and licensed practical nurses, licensed clinical social workers and occupational & recreational therapists. For additional information regarding the geropsychiatric unit or to make a referral, contact us or call (765) 983-3050.
