2012 MacDowell Gallery Exhibits

2012 MacDowell Gallery Exhibits

The MacDowell Gallery at the Reid Hospital Outpatient Care Center continues its practice of featuring regional artists, with displays by Benny Kenworthy, Amy Mitchell and Diana Pappin.

Located on the second floor of Reid Hospital, the MacDowell Gallery showcases approximately six regional artists or special events each year.  The gallery primarily features oils, watercolors, mixed media and photography.

“The MacDowell Gallery allows us to highlight the vast talent of artists who are right here in our own community,” said Foundation Director Jason Troutwine.

As a home to over 700 pieces of art in both the permanent galleries and the MacDowell Gallery, Reid is quickly becoming one of Richmond’s art stops.  Adult and student groups increasingly visit Reid to view the works on display, Troutwine said.

“As patients, families and visitors walk this Reid campus, art plays an essential role in the calming atmosphere we strive to create,” Troutwine said.  “Most people at Reid are dealing with serious issues.  Art, piano, and gardens seem to provide a brief escape.”

The gallery, named for the former CEO of Reid Hospital, Barry MacDowell, is administered by Edward Thornburg, Adjunct Professor of Art at Indiana University East.

Gallery hours are 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

Benny Kenworthy

Recently featured

Richmond artist Benny Kenworthy follows the wisdom of 19th and 20th century regional artists and depicts the beauty in the landscapes and wooded areas around him.  Benny won Best of Show at the Darke County Fair two years and Best Contemporary Art at Richmond Art Museum.  Benny attended Northeastern High School and graduated from Purdue University with a degree in computer graphics.  He is employed by Belden Wire and Cable Company.  He hopes his painting will not only capture the past, but will hold onto the present, and remain for the future as a tireless piece of art.
