Mutombo Kankonde, M.D., has opened an oncology/hematology practice in the Richmond Cancer and Blood Disease Center, 1050 Reid Parkway, Suite 120. Before opening the practice, he was associated with the Department of Oncology/Hematology, Largo Medical Center in Largo, Maryland.
Dr. Kankonde received his M.D. degree from the University of Kinshasa. He completed an internship at Mama-Yemo General Hospital in Kinshasa, Zaire, and a Masters of Public Health Administration at the University of South Carolina.
His training also includes a residency in internal medicine at St. Agnes Hospital, Baltimore, and a hematology/oncology fellowship at the Veteran's Administration Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Kankonde, a musician, composer and novelist, actively supports development projects in the Congo and has served as a primary care physician for the Presbyterian Church Health Systems of Zaire and as superintendent and professor of physio-pathology in the nursing school at the Lingwala Medical Center while managing the Bibanga health zone.
He is board-certified in hematology, oncology and internal medicine.
