Wayne Nash, a resident of the Fountain City area and a
published poet, has been honored as Reid Hospital's Volunteer of the Month for
October.
Nash, a mail courier, became a volunteer in June last year
and has already donated more than 300 hours.
"Wayne is a great example of Reid's C.A.R.E. standards,"
wrote one nominator. "He greets everyone he sees with 'good morning' and a
smile. When asked, he always reports his
day is great so far, and he plans to keep it that way."
Retired after 18 years at TransilWrap Plastics, his last
posting and where he garnered an employee of the month award, Nash also volunteers
for the card ministry of the Central Christian Church.
"Wayne is reliable not only for his own shift but also in
filling in for others when they need a sub," according to another nomination.
Nash's family includes his wife, Mona, a daughter and Reid
employee, Misty, and mother-in-law Lola Brown. He is a member of Central
Christian Church. Also of the family circle is Cappy, a labradoodle and a
registered therapy dog.
"I'm very honored to be recognized for volunteering at
Reid," Nash said. "I really enjoy the time I spend there, especially all the
people I get to see during my shift."
In addition to his poetry, Nash notes he reserves time for
reading, crosswords, painting plaster figurines and coin collecting. He also
walks for fun and exercise.
