With
more than 3,600 hours logged since beginning her Reid service in 2000,
November's Volunteer of the Month has found many venues from which to assist
patients, visitors, staff and fellow Reid volunteers.
Said
one of her colleagues, "Betty Dudley has served Outpatient Surgery, Radiology
and the Information Desk. She's also taken turns on the Auxiliary Board as
Assistant Treasurer and Treasurer."
"Her
desire to help others," added a nominator, "shows when she assists concerned
family members in the waiting area while loved ones undergo surgery."
The
Richmond resident, retired after 26 years at the city's Recycling Center, also
has volunteered with the Randolph County 4-H Dog Obedience program and
continues volunteering at Morrisson-Reeves Library.
"Betty
fancies Boston Terriers, and her special pet, Missy, is a fine example of the
breed," said one of her admirers. "Her collection of Boston Terrier items,
plates, calendars, ceramics and all sorts of collectibles, includes more than
300 items."
"I
enjoy doing what I do at Reid," Dudley said. "It is truly the kind of service
that is its own reward."
Her
family includes three children, three grandchildren and a
great-grandchild.
She
also makes time for the Happy Scrappers Quilt Club of Centerville; some of the
quilts produced are donated to Project Linus to comfort
children who are seriously ill, traumatized or otherwise in need of blankets
and afghans created by Project "blanketeers."
