Mike Pappin, the June volunteer of the month, has been sharing his time and skills in the Joint & Spine Center since its inception in 2010. Mike was selected for his friendliness and helpfulness to patients and their families. Also cited, is his enthusiasm about his role as a volunteer. Mike is very reliable and can be counted on to work past his shift when the unit is extra busy.
Mike’s customer service skills may have been learned during his 18 years as manager for Richmond Hardware in Cambridge City. He is a past president and vice president of the New Day Kiwanis of Cambridge City. Mike is a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and serves as a Cantor for the Richmond Catholic Community. He also sings with an acappella church group and has been involved with Richmond Civic Theatre.
Mike and Diana, his wife of 39 years, live in Richmond and have two daughters and one granddaughter. His oldest daughter and her family live in Cincinnati, while the youngest, who just recently married, lives in Seattle WA. The newest member of the Pappin family is Davis, a three-year old Yorkshire terrier. Mike enjoys singing and attending dog obedience classes with Davis. He is happy his granddaughter is close-by so he can spend time with her.
“I am very excited to receive this award,” said Mike. “It is such a great honor.” Mike says he loves what he is able to do for the patients and families of Reid. He enjoys it and does not consider it work. He regards coming in to volunteer one of the best parts of his week and enjoys his co-workers who are so dedicated to their patients.
