Joyce White has been named Reid Hospital’s August volunteer of the month. Retired from Elder Beerman, Joyce has a history of being recognized for outstanding service. While working as a department manager at Elder Beerman, she was awarded volunteer of the month three times. She has volunteered at Reid for nearly five years, primarily in the Medical Education department. Joyce was recruited by her daughter, Lynda McClelland, who is the coordinator for that area. Joyce helps keep the physician mail boxes—over 120, in order and works on mailings for the office. She also enjoys helping with the various auxiliary fundraisers.
Nominators cited her dedication and positive attitude. “Joyce enjoys whatever duty she is assigned,” said a co-worker. “She can always be counted on to have a positive attitude.”
Joyce and her husband, Roy, have been married for 57 years. They have a daughter, Lynda, and a son, Randall and are blessed with three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Joyce likes to spend as much time as possible outdoors, and watching her great-grandchildren play sports. The White’s patio is a favorite hangout in their Richmond neighborhood where much time is spent spoiling their Boston terrier, Diva.
Joyce was very surprised and honored to be named the volunteer of the month. “I enjoy helping all I can,” said Joyce. “It gives me a chance to get out and see people.”
