Reid’s October Volunteer of Month, Evelene Lantz, has been helping with special assignments for over eight years. She often assists with various projects and events, most recently prostrate screening registration and preparations for Reid’s Humanity in Medicine dinner. She also helps with preparing mailings, cutting fabric for baby blankets, organizing donated magazines and other assorted tasks. Evelene frequently works with two other volunteers, Emily Wise and Becky Leith, and they have been dubbed “the three musketeers.”
Nominators cite her ability to quickly complete assignments and her pleasant demeanor. “I look forward to seeing Evelene, not only because she completes whatever project is given to her effortlessly, but because she and her two friends have a way of sharing their enjoyment of life.” A Reid staff member said, “She is always pleasant and ready to take on any task that is asked of her. Evelene always likes to laugh and enjoy whatever she is doing.”
Evelene is a retired business owner. She and her late husband were owners of The Box Store located in Richmond. She is member of the Fountain City Wesleyan church where she frequently assists as a greeter. Evelene is a member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association. She also enjoys playing cards, traveling, bowling and spending time with friends and family. Evelene’s family includes three daughters, one son, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
“I am very shocked and surprised, but honored to be recognized as Volunteer of the Month,” said Evelene. “I enjoy coming in and helping with special projects for various areas.”
