December volunteer part of Reid sister act (12-13-2013)December’s Volunteer of the Month, Edna Pittman, has logged over 1,000 hours of service since 2006. Edna devotes her volunteer time to the Emergency Room. She is retired from Anchor Glass in Winchester after over 36 years with the company. Edna has four sisters who are also Reid volunteers— Bonnie Kenworthy, Ruth Haskett, Carolyn Schwab and Esther Mock. She has two brothers and one is a former Reid volunteer. Edna’s family also includes her son and grandson. She enjoys reading, playing golf, traveling, watching old cowboy movies and spending time with her family and church, Chapelwood Baptist in Winchester.
November volunteer is a Reid retiree (11-1-2013)November’s Volunteer of the Month, Janice Brook, has served in the surgery waiting area and at the Information Desk since 2009. She has logged over 1,300 volunteer hours at Reid. She knows the hospital well since she is a retired Reid nurse having worked in the Cardiac Cath Lab, the Patient Care Center and Endoscopy. Janice volunteers for overseas mission trips through her church. And, with the American Red Cross, she has traveled to Maripos, California, and Stuttgart, Germany on mission trips.
October volunteer logs over 2,000 hours in three departments (10-4-2013)October’s Volunteer of the Month, Joyce Melling, has worked in the Emergency Department, the Cancer Center and at the Information Desk since 2004. She has logged over 2,000 volunteer hours at Reid. Joyce is a past president of Altrusa and is currently the president of Melling Electric. She has also served as a volunteer with Cape Coral Hospital in Florida.
September volunteer logs over 950 hours in ER (9-6-2013)September’s Volunteer of the Month, Ray Dubois, has donated his time as an Emergency Room Angel since 2009 — putting in over 950 hours of volunteer time. A Navy veteran, Ray is retired after a 40 year career in Cleveland, Ohio, with the plastic colorants industry, Ray is happy to now call Richmond home. “I have lived in many states,” said Ray, “but I settled down in Richmond because of the people. It is the greatest place to be.”
August volunteer flies through mailroom duties (8-9-2013)Reid’s volunteer of the month for August, Dennis Farmer, has been assisting in the mailroom since 2007. Dennis retired from the United States Air Force after a 20-year career and lives in Richmond. When not volunteering at Reid, Dennis keeps fit by running.
July volunteer at Reid for over a half-century (7-12-2013)July’s Volunteer of Month, Martha Harris, has been affiliated with Reid for over 50 years. She worked as nurse at Reid for 46 years. Martha acquired her RN degree from the Miami Valley Nursing School in 1962. She worked at Reid on L-6, Jenkins Hall, home care and Reid-ANC. She retired in 2008 and immediately began volunteering for her former employer. She always loved flower arranging so making floral arrangements that are sold in Reid’s Ginkgo Boutique was a perfect fit.
June volunteer is thorough and conscientious (6-18-2013)June’s Volunteer of Month, Ed Bowery, has almost eight years of experience at Reid’s information desk and in the emergency department. He is noted for his friendliness, and for the compassion he shows for everyone’s well-being.
May volunteer provides a welcoming smile (5-3-2013)May’s Volunteer of Month, Marjorie Haisley, has almost 19 years of experience at Reid’s Information Desk. She is noted for her comforting and welcoming smile, and for going above and beyond to assist patients and visitors to their destinations from the Information Desk.
April volunteer a wealth of information (4-5-2013)April’s Volunteer of Month, Kay Parks, has been a mainstay of the Information Desk for over five years. She is noted for her pleasant personality and for making a great first impression to hospital patients and visitors. Kay also helps with auxiliary fundraising events and aids with computer set up for payroll deductions.
March volunteer has logged over 1,500 hours of service (3-8-2013)March’s Volunteer of Month, Nancy Clark, has been volunteering in the Medical Education office for over five years. She will soon be recognized for accumulating over 1,500 hours of volunteer service to Reid. Nancy works one or two days a week and primarily enters data for physician continuing medical education credits. She also reviews physician files for documentation needed for various accrediting procedures.
