Reid Hospital Ambasador of the Month

Security officer selected February Ambassador

Mike EmmeneggerFebruary’s Ambassador of the Month at Reid Hospital & Health Care Services constitutes a reminder that diplomacy makes demands and patient care imposes stresses.

Nominators from three departments praised Mike Emmenegger, security officer, for his professionalism, friendliness and ability to defuse a tense situation.

“He is extremely caring to our patients during a security code, and we always have a positive outcome when Mike is involved,” a registered nurse reports. “He is a natural at calming potentially difficult scenarios.”

Another nominator praised his vigilance in always checking with the appropriate office before opening a meeting or class room to a group not on the schedule and noted he always drops by to ask how things are going when on his appointed rounds.

“His attitude is extremely positive, his enthusiasm is infectious and his smile is warming,” wrote one nominator. “Mike is a neat guy in a perfect position at Reid.”

A Security Department colleague notes that the six-year department veteran has been a leader in their training regime and never fails to greet staff and patients with kind words and a smile.

Other nominations noted a sense of humor that at once puts both new acquaintances and friends at ease and that he is a team player, not unusually assisting a patient into the Emergency Department.

Another gave his low-key approach a lot of credit for the relative ease with which Reid went smoke-free a year ago: “It would be hard to cite a better, more consistent application of the C.A.R.E. principles.”

Emmenegger graduated from Richmond High School in 1983, the same year as his Eagle Scout rank. He and his wife, Keri, Central Scheduling, live in the Economy area. Their daughter, Meghan, is 1.

“My job has to be one of the best in the hospital,” says Emmenegger. “Each day brings different opportunities to assist patients, visitors and staff. Being able to work with nearly every department in the hospital, on any given day, is very fulfilling.”

The Emmeneggers are member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. He has served the Economy Fire Department for four years as a volunteer firefighter.
