Saluted as a Friday Pharmacy fixture since December 2000, Hazel Starr has been named Reid Hospital & Health Care Services Volunteer of the Month for December.
“She does a difficult job faithfully and without complaint,” wrote one nominator. “We could not get along without her – and she makes great buckeyes.”
A Richmond area resident, Starr began volunteering for Reid in 1998.
“Hazel constantly brings her smile to work with her,” noted another nominator. “On more than once occasion, she has stopped what she was doing to help me find a file. She is appreciated more than can be written.”
Starr, who retired after 15 years at General Telephone, also volunteers at the Boys and Girls Club and Central United Methodist Church.
“Hazel is always friendly, helpful, cheerful and eager to work,” remarked a nominator who expressed a Pharmacy department consensus. “She is a joy.”
Her three sons all live in Indiana. Starr also has eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
A crochet hobbyist, she makes many items for Senior Opportunity Services.
