June Volunteer hailed by Diabetic Education

Donald G. George

Richmond resident Doyle Nichols, a Food & Nutrition Services Diabetic Education volunteer with 114 hours of service, is the June Volunteer of the Month at Reid Hospital & Health Care Services.

Doyle began volunteering in July 2005 and found an enthusiastic reception among his colleagues.

“Doyle has been such a great addition to our department,” wrote one nominator.  “We are so glad he joined our group.”

Another singled out Nichols’ organizational skills, honed through 29 years at Belden; “He is so efficient, and he always has everything we need ready for us.”

“He is very pleasant and easy to get along with,” offered another admirer. “When Doyle is here, our day is under control and on track.”

A 10-year veteran of the Richmond Police Department, Nichols also volunteered for 20 years with the Wayne County Sheriff Reserves.

He and Doris, his wife of 39 years, have a son, Dwayne, in Ft. Wayne and a daughter, Tina Batachelder, in Tennessee and account three grandchildren and a great granddaughter. He fills his spare time with yard work.
