Health Information Management bonds with volunteer

Mary Ann BrooksWith her self-assigned Monday shift lasting from zero dark-thirty though high tea, April's Volunteer of the Month has made herself invaluable to Health Information Management.

Richmond resident Mary Ann Brooks, retired after teaching business and accounting for 44 years, was hailed for her willingness to help then at any time, at any spot in the department.

"Every holiday, she treats our staff and supervisors to cookies and other goodies," applauded one nominator.

"Mary Ann makes our day complete with everything that she does for us," affirmed another.

Brooks is active in the Central United Methodist Church where she edits the Lamplighter, a monthly newsletter. She is also the congregation's chairman for tracking funerals, publicizing garage sales, the women's bazaar, and bread basket organizer for Solid Ministries.

"Volunteer of the Month is quite an honor since I have been here just a short time," notes Brooks, who joined up in 2006. "I really enjoy working in the HIM department and have gained a completely different perspective and appreciation of the hospital."

Brooks says her other delights are her flower garden and spending time with her friends and family, which includes three children and two grandchildren.
