Melanie
Neale, a Richmond High School junior and a member of Reid's Junior Volunteers,
has been honored as the May Volunteer of the Month at Reid Hospital & Health
Care Services.
"Melanie works willingly on any floor," wrote one nominator. "She is cheerful and cooperative and never complains."
Another noted that Neale, whose award coincides with her first service anniversary, takes on extra duties even if not asked. She was awarded her 50-hour pin in February.
"Melanie gets along with all adults and peers: She is very professional and does an excellent job on the floor," summed up her citation. "We are so fortunate to have a Junior Volunteer like Melanie."
Also a volunteer at HELP to Animals, Neale is usually tasked with bathing the clients and walking them for exercise.
"I love volunteering. It makes me feel good knowing I am helping others," writes Neale. "I am glad everyone is happy with my work. It is a surprise and an honor to be Volunteer of the Month."
Originally of British Columbia, Neale moved here with her parents and brother when she was 11. Most of their relatives live in Canada, and the family frequently returns for visits.
A member of the National Honor Society, Neale is also a flutist in the Richmond High School Marching Band.
