Lee Bond

Two years ago Lee's mother, Susie, enrolled him in Reid's Stop Taking on Pounds program (STOP) – a weight loss program for children.

Today, Lee credits Reid with changing his life.

Before entering the program, pediatrician Dr. Paul Rider shared his concern that Lee, because of his weight, was at risk of becoming a childhood diabetic.  Liver tests confirmed Dr. Rider's suspicions; Lee's results were three times the normal level.

As a result of the class, Susie said, "We've learned that had Lee become a childhood diabetic, he would have been at risk of having heart disease, high blood pressure and would probably have become an adult diabetic."

Lee, who was the oldest in his class, said the STOP teachers asked a lot of the students, but the end result was worth it.

"We exercised in and out of class.  They made us keep track of what we ate, and we had to share our list with the class.  At first I wasn't so sure about it, but then I started losing weight."

In the end, Lee lost 19 pounds and said the hard work was worth it.

"I'm glad I did it – it changed my life!"
